BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo Diesel Coupe: High Performance, Low Consumption
August 6, 2008
A performance BMW that returns great mileage is something rare in current times, I’m sure it’ll be something very common in the near future but now now. Equally as rare is the sight of a Alpina tuned BMW here on Malaysian roads but there’s always hope. Based on the BMW 3-Series Coupe, the D3 Bi-Turbo Coupe runs on a modified version of the BMW 123d’s 2-liter twin-turbo diesel that churns out 214hp.

The D3 is very capable of impressive figures, top speed stands at 245km/h and a 0-100 time of 6.9 seconds, but what is very impressive is one figure that most supercars cant match, liters per kilometer. When running at speeds above 200km/h it still manages to return 5.4liters for every 100km with a manual gearbox and 5.6liters for every 100km/h with an automatic transmission.

Even your 1-liter Perodua doesn’t give you that good fuel consumption. Time to upgrade to a diesel BMW then, over the long term it’ll prove to be a good investment but as long as diesel prices remain at current or lower prices, any more and BMW might just pass on offering diesel models in Malaysia.

how do you rate that it is 1.5 times better? Is there a way of measuring.
but anyway,
that FC figure is normally way off compared to when the car is on our streets stuck in traffic jams and traffic lights.
looks and performance figures are enticing tho!
Malaysian diesel is EURO 3 standard - has more sulfur content.
It could be that using this lower standard of diesel will result in a BMW that spews black clouds as bad as some Malaysian buses or trucks. Not a pretty sight.
Heard is because Petronas isn’t ready to produce green diesel for their own folks.
Incidentally I don’t think a BMW would spew black clouds. I’ve seen several 530d on the road and they appear to be working fine (no smoke). Maybe a more advanced engine vs those buses/trucks?
BMW has an image and reputation to maintain…they wont sell cars that spume black smoke when using lower grade fuel….
2. Has the road tax for diesel car been reduced in the latest budget? How much will it cost for Merc S320 CDI? Company registration and Personal Registration?
Thx v much
