AFOS: Newcomer Lemvard Takes Pole

Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW claimed pole position with Jack Lemvard during the first qualifying session of the Asian Touring Car Series while Eddie Lew leads the pack for the Malaysian drivers taking the front row alongside Lemvard. In Division 2, Macau driver Chan Man Fong claimed the fastest time to take the lead starting in sixth place.
Thai driver, Lemvard clocked 2:19.997 in his second lap overcoming the earlier oil leak he had after the free practice session in the morning. The driver is in his first season of touring car racing and has already proven to be one of the drivers to keep watch.
Lew and his team, JC Racing, fought hard to post a commendable time of 2: 23.338, 1.1seconds ahead of third place starter, Ho Wai Kun.
Lew attributed his quick pace to his team saying, “we are quite satisfied with the result. I didn’t make any mistake on the track and the car feels very fast. The Michelin tyres also worked well in the hot conditions. JC Racing gave me a good racing machine to obtain a first row position on the starting grid.
“We hope to challenge for a win tomorrow but realistically the gap is too big compared to the BMW. Chances are 50-50 but we will certainly try our best to win.”
Chan Man Fong, who leads the Division 2 fight, will start in sixth place behind Mak Ka Lok and Melvin Choo (both Div1 drivers). Chan leads Daniel Amante Gomes and Lui Kit Man in the challenge to win their category.
There will be 25 cars competing in Rounds 1 & 2 of the Asian Touring Car Series at Sepang International Circuit, Friday, 16 May 2008.
