Motor shows are always fun, fast cars, blinged cars, and just all out crazy cars and then of course there are the girls that go along with it. If there is a must visit scene for a pick up artist, it’s got to be a motor show for there are girls that will make you wanna smack yourself silly but for god’s sake let’s keep it together, just for now.
Motor shows are, more often than not, costly events that involve months of preparation, a large crew, not forgetting the suppliers, vendors, agents and whatever that goes with organizing such an event. The big name event companies behind such events are usually in it for the buck, forget enthusiasm. They sometimes get away with charging absurd entry fees for mediocre events. Well there are commercial events like those and then there’s Auto Fiesta; a four year old tradition that started with a “Eh, Lets organize a show, just for fun”.
The Metropolitan Motorsports Enthusiast Club (MMEC) is deemed as one of the most active clubs to have ever graced the history of Metropolitan College, that’s because MMEC is responsible for the one event that almost everybody has heard of. MMEC first staged Auto Fiesta in 2005 as a closed door college event that lasted for three days but as closed door as it tried to be, it somehow attracted other college students and outsiders alike. Such a reception set the stage for Auto Fiesta v.2 ’06 and v.3 ’07, events that gathered enthusiasts and friends in the most unlike of places in the thousands, never has there been such a large number of people on college grounds on a day where there’s no class and lecturers don’t show up.
The purpose of Auto Fiesta has always been to gather motor sports merchants and enthusiasts alike on common grounds to build on grass roots enthusiasm. With the backing of one of the most recognised college in Malaysia, Auto Fiesta 2008 themed ‘Fiery Flames’ lived up to expectations and successfully carried on what is now a Metropolitan College classic.
A wide range of cars that include the usual Japanese line up of Honda’s and Mitsubishi’s to your highly acclaimed German masterpiece; Porsche and also an American classic, a Chevy Camaro were on show. If that wasn’t enough, a GT Queen Search was held with “queens” from a number of different college’s vied for the Miss Auto Fiesta 08 title and by the looks on some people’s looks, it was pretty enticing. How could it not be ? They had girls dressed up in Nurse’s outifts, waitress outfits, and even one in a bunny costume!! Holding a carrot!!! It was as if a porn-freak was let loose to make decisions on what the girls should look like on stage, and it worked, the crowd loved it. This just further strengthens the notion that sex sells, someone just needs to catch up on that here, they can start by hiring that porn-freak, he’s a genius.
So, a great GT Queen Search that left very little to the imagination and a great show overall saw plenty of pleased faces walking out the exit but the question is, should mighty million dollar event companies be worried about a few college students getting together to pull of a motor show? Well, as long as there is strong backing in the form of Metropolitan College, there will always be something for them to be worried about, especially since this year’s event was left wanting in a few areas, but still they brought in a crowd. Makes you wonder, what if?
