As a major fan of Meguiar’s for years, I caught the detailing bug some years ago when i first painted my car black. In fact, the reason why i went black was purely due to the fact that Black gives the best bang per buff. This is an undeniable fact.
The paintjob was pretty extensive. I needed it to be perfect for my then, new found hobby. The old paint was completely stripped and re-primered, and then it was black and some coats of clear. May not be what connoisseurs call a perfect job, but it was a good start.
It was in one of the Singaporean car detailing forums which exposed me to the world of car detailing. Meguiar’s was a real cult there. I took the plunge and got myself ready by purchasing a couple of crucial products, namely the Gold Class Wax, Gold Class car wash, the wash mitt, the Quik Detailer and so on.
I soon started to collect many more and all this shopping was done in Singapore which was where I had access to at the time being based in Johor Bahru. I’ve also done my shopping in most Ace Hardware shops i’ve ever been to. It’s been forever that I’ve thought, “wouldn’t it be nice to somehow get some Meguiar’s on sponsorship”.
The Gold Class and accompanying all-time classics
And, So, fast forward, dream comes true. Huge thanks to Hypercoat Malaysia for providing us with the opportunity to post reviews on their almost complete line of products for the consumers. Namely their Gold Class and “newer” more akin to the current bling era, the NXT range.
I know, some of you may think, what’s the big deal with car detailing products? Yes, the common ones you have at home or inherited from your father works well, no doubt. – That is, If you just want to do it for the sake of doing it.
The new-age NXT range and its matching gloss-enhancers and speedy-cleaners
Now, think of these premium-grade products as a graduation. Similar to growing up with Vitalis, Code 10 or Brylcreem when you’re really young and clueless, and now, it seems like you can’t live without your super-hard-all-day, remouldeable Hair-styling Wax or Sculpting lotions. They all may work the same way, it’s just, somehow, premium products just seems to work a little different. If not Better.
Without much delay, let me just share some of my experience with these products that I first purchased when i first started out.
Meguiar’s Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo
Let me share some of my first favorites when i first adopted Meguiar’s. Firstly, there was the Gold Class car wash, which clearly isn’t your off-the-shelf car shampoo. A few capfuls of this stuff generates luscious, creamy suds making the car washing experience that little bit more enjoyable and since it’s gloss friendly, it does its job while preserving precious layers of gloss which you’ve built prior to your wash.
Meguiar’s Microfiber Wash Mitt
The Wash Mitt. How do you usually wash your car? With a piece of old t-shirt, baby napkins, or that classic Good Morning‘s. Cost-effective and usually found lying around. If you don’t mind cutting your fingers on the trims, edges, and all, and the irritatingness of dropping it or refolding it while washing, they work, again, for the sake of washing.
The Meguiar’s Wash Mitt you see above(the picture doesn’t do it justice) isn’t a piece of cloth. It’s like a glove which you slip your hand into and doesn’t go anywhere right till you finish the wash. If you like you could intelligently swap sides for washing the cleaner top and dirtier bottom halves of your car, minimizing swirls. It being a glove not only makes you look a little more cooler doing it, but believe it or not, also speeds up washes.
Meguiar’s Gold Class Wax
Ah, the Gold Class liquid wax. Ever used waxes? Then you should know. Want one that goes on smooth as butter and buffs off like dust? This is it. Even the name suggest something of a higher level. If there’s something Meguiar’s is known for, it’s their waxes. Though I have an honest opinion of its results not being able to last weeks, the initial results are majestic. It even smells different. All Meguiar’s products has that scent to it.
Meguiar’s Quik Detailer
So, say your car was painstakingly done 10 minutes ago. You’re out enjoying a good drive. It freaking rains. What can you do besides cursing in disbelief? You keep the Quik Detailer handy. To roll-back(phew) to where you’ve left off earlier, you give the car a good quick rinse. Dry it. Mist the Quik Detailer on and wipe off. It’s also good for quick freshening ups between waxes, after washes, cleaning bird shit and proper lubricant for more advanced use of the detailing clay bar.
Meguiar’s Endurance High Gloss Tyre Shine
One of my top all-time favourites. Like thick, deep, black, shine on your tyres? This bottle of Meguiar’s super thick shine gel will do what the bottle says. Lasts Weeks, Not Days. Definitely not your typical milkish white substance you get from the car wash, Not that foam on, leave it, nor that even crappier aerosol spray on stuff.
This gel based stuff is so different, it actually takes some experience in applying. Not too much or you’ll get it all over your hands and the rims. It is sticky and all and it IS a pain to remove. But applied well, those tyres will continue glowing even while the wheels blackens from brakedust. Its also repels water very well.
Meguiar’s range of Applicators, Cloths and Brushes
Here’s what Meguiar’s also provided. A Whole lot of brushes for cleaning the tyres, wheels, interior. Drying cloths, wiping cloths, applicator foams and the likes. Apart from the Foam applicator and Wash Mitt glove, I haven’t use these things before. We’ll get to it and let you know how it performs.
We’ll also be showcasing Hypercoat‘s own Meguiar’s Detailer professional work on the new Honda Jazz. as well as other projects we have planned for the coming months. Wait for it.
We’d like to also thank Esther from Hypercoat Who supplied us with the products. Mr Wong for the detailing jobs and the rest at Hypercoat. There really are a whole lot of products we have at the office.
